Be part of a modern analytics environment
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Senior Analyst, you will play a critical role in shaping how Health New Zealand understands performance, responds to emerging issues, and makes evidence-informed decisions. Every day, you will turn complex health data into meaningful insights that enable teams in Northland to provide better patient care and improve health outcomes for people in Northland.

You will lead analytical work that spans exploratory insights, performance monitoring, modelling, visualisation, and the development of robust reporting frameworks. You'll work across directoratesand collaborate with external agencies. This role offers a unique opportunity to consistently support equity, transparency, and high-quality decision-making across the health system.

You will bring a powerful blend of technical excellence, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to Pae Ora. You are someone who sees beyond the numbers—able to translate complex data into meaningful insights that inform teams across the health system. You are motivated by improving outcomes for communities, strengthening system transparency, and ensuring equity and Te Tiriti principles underpin everything we measure, interpret and communicate.

You excel in complex environments and are confident navigating diverse datasets, designing analytical content, and advising senior leaders. You are a collaborator, a critical thinker, and a natural influencer—able to build strong relationships across directorates, external agencies, and clinical and operational leaders. Your analytical leadership strengthens not only the insights we produce, but also the capability of those around you.

You will have:

A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. data science, statistics, IT, computer science) and a strong applied understanding of analytical disciplines and how they generate business, system and customer value.
7–10 years' experience in senior analytics or intelligence roles in large, complex organisations, ideally with public sector or health sector exposure.
Advanced technical expertise in data manipulation, integration and modelling, with experience using tools such as Power BI,, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, and Azure DevOps.
Proven experience creating high-quality dashboards, designing data structures, validating datasets, and applying best-practice data quality and assurance principles.
Strong working knowledge of the New Zealand health system and the role of analytics in supporting public accountability, including OIAs, ministerial briefings and media responses.
Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to present complex insights clearly, defend analytical decisions, and tailor messaging to technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience in coaching, mentoring or contributing to capability uplift across analytical communities or project teams.
