JOB DUTIES
This position works in the medical staff office of Kona Community Hospital and is responsible for credentialing and privileging all practitioners following the medical staff bylaws, credentialing policy and procedures.
Acts as a liaison between the Medical Staff Services Office, Medical Director, and medical staff members. This position may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24 / 7.
EDUCATION :
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. Excess experience of the type and quality described below or progressively responsible professional work experience which provided knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to those normally acquired in four (4) years of successful study leading to a bachelor’s degree may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
EXPERIENCE :
Two-and-one-half (2 ½) years of progressively responsible professional experience in administrative, supervisory, or consultative work in hospital administration which included experience with one or multiple the Joint Commission (TJC) surveys, including the preparation of medical staff for interview and file review components of the survey and attendance / participation in the survey.
Experience using medical staff database technology is desired.
Supervisory Experience : One (1) year of work experience which demonstrated the applicant’s knowledge of and ability to apply the principles, practices, techniques and methods of supervision including 1) planning, organizing and directing the work of others;
2) assigning and reviewing work; 3) advising others on difficult work problems; 4) timing and scheduling work; and 5) training and developing employees.
CERTIFICATION PREFERRED :
Current certification by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) for Certified Medical Staff Coordinator (CMSC) and / or CPCS.
30 CEU’s every 3 years required to maintain certification).
DESIRED SKILLS :
Knowledge of management functions, principles, procedures and practices of Medical Staff. Working knowledge of all areas of the Medical Staff governance, including credentialing and privileging processes and the applicable Joint Commission (TJC) Standards that address organizational requirements.
Knowledge of hospital and medical staff services operations and functions that include quality improvement processes, data collection and statistical analysis.
Knowledge of good customer service principles. Working knowledge of computer programs. Knowledge of current federal and state law and regulations relevant to program functions.
• Ability to provide overall direction and coordinate various medical staff programs, plan, implement and evaluate operations and activities;
• make sound recommendations and decisions; resolve personnel and program problems; access and maintain currency of regulations, law and standards and draft needed changes required for compliance;
• deal tactfully and effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, employees and others. Analyze and prepare reports and budgets;
• ability to carry out a varied range of management functions : organize, assign, and review the work of others; effectively communicate through written material and oral presentations to groups or individuals;
must be able to effectively multi-task, prioritize, delegate and meet deadlines.
Ability to enter and manipulate data in word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
Physical demands include light physical effort (lift / carry up to 10 lbs.); occasional standing / walking; occasionally lifts supplies / equipment.
Must be able to read without strain-printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
Subject to irregular hours of telephone availability.
Required Forms & Documentation : Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g., official transcript or degree) to be given credit for education and / or experience.
