Job Description

We are looking for an individuals who are dynamic, committed and have extensive knowledge, experience and skills to deliver SACT treatment to patients in North London with a cancer diagnoses.

We currently treat patients with solid and haemato-oncology cancers. If you are a registered nurse band 5 or band 6 who have completed your SACT training want flexibility and support the team to deliver SACT treatment we would like to invite you to apply for this post to support the team in delivering compassionate, care to this group of patients.

we are a busy 16-chair unit, and we are looking for individuals to support to continually improve our service.

We will expect you to be responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of a group of patients in a team setting, providing safe, effective, evidence-based care with opportunities to self develop and have access to training opportunities.

You will need to demonstrate you have leadership qualities with the ability to communicate clearly in a dynamic setting, support the unit in maintain a dedicated nursing team and have the desire to work within an Oncology, Haematology day unit setting,

To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both the patients receiving SACT and their relatives

Responsible for safe SACT delivery in accordance with national and the trust guidance on the delivery of Systematic Anticancer Therapy (SACT), cytotoxic therapy for non-cancer indications across the trust

To take direct managerial responsibility for a group of patients within the clinical area and adhere to local IPC policies and procedures

To act as a clinical resource within the unit and demonstrate a positive role model to junior staff members and other MDT members

Deliver training and education to patients, junior staff and students within the unit

Ensure governance process in place when administering SACT

North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system – consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS’s, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.

We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George’s University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.

You will; be expected to assist in maintaining and developing Cancer services and contribute to improvement within the service. Act as a clinical resource within the unit. Act as a positive role model to junior staff members, particular emphasis is put on the needs of staff to ensure that all staff recognizes their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient focused manner and to always maintain patient confidentiality.

Provide expert holistic care of a high standard to both the patients and their relatives during SACT on the unit

Has the ability to manage treatment reactions in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures.

Always act in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and within the principles of the scope of Professional and clinical Practice and take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve your knowledge and professional competence.

To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to patients receiving SACT, lease with the oncology medical staff as appropriate, recognizing patients who require medical support.

To communicate effectively and efficiently by utilizing a variety of strategies to ensure your communication is effective with both patients and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that patients receive seamless care within the Unit and the Trust to ensure they are not disadvantaged.

To actively support the process of risk assessment of patients prior to treatment and ensure incidents are reported appropriately and using the trust reporting systems.

To develop and gain knowledge of and to manage the potential complications and side effects of chemotherapy e.g. extravasation and chemotherapy spillage.

To provide appropriate and timely information to patients and their careers, regarding their disease, treatments, and services available

To develop the skills and knowledge to be able to support the coordinator in identifying work priorities and allocation of caseload. Management of health and safety issues and ensure relevant risk assessments are undertaken on a yearly basis.

To ensure that patient confidentiality is always maintained and ensure health and safety regulations are always adhered to.

To be responsible for the safe use and maintenance of equipment within the Chemotherapy Unit and act on clinical incidents pertinent to area to reduce clinical
