About Us
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a wonderful place to expand your career and grow your skills and knowledge. As a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, we provide a range of public health services to the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Region.

The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).

We are seeking a passionate and skilled ****** Assault Counsellor to join our team. Applications for full time or part time work (minimum three days per week) will be considered.

In this role, you will provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to adults and children who have experienced ****** assault, as well as children under 10 years presenting with problematic or sexually harmful behaviours and their non-offending family members. The position involves both crisis and ongoing counselling interventions, assessment, advocacy, case work, training facilitation, and community development initiatives.

You will be part of a highly supportive tertiary trauma counselling service that prioritizes professional development and wellbeing. We offer substantial internal and external clinical supervision, peer support, and cultural supervision to help you build your skills and maintain resilience in a role that deals with sensitive and complex issues.

This is a female identified position and includes participation in a 24/7 crisis counselling roster. The ****** Assault Service operates within the Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) framework, which develops policy and supports services for children, young people, and adults who are victims of violence, abuse, or neglect.

What you will bring to the role

Tertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership as follow, plus significant clinical experience in child, young people and adult. Social Worker – Minimum bachelor’s degree and eligibility for membership of AASW and extensive specialist knowledge or high level of broad generalist knowledge. Psychologist - a four year degree in psychology, being a three year degree with a fourth year honours in psychology; or a qualification deemed equivalent by the employer. Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Being female is recognised as a genuine occupation qualification for this position and is authorised under section 31(2h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Extensive experience in applying best practice models to working with children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma including demonstrated understanding of the effects of ****** assault and of harmful or problematic sexualised behaviours in children under 10 years.
Demonstrated and extensive specialist assessment, case management and counselling skills to respond to the needs of children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma with proven ability to make independent professional judgements about case planning and clinical management of complex client groups.
Demonstrated high level of understanding of current policies, frameworks and legislation regarding child protection, ****** assault and problematic harmful sexualised behaviours under 10.
Demonstrated understanding of the intersection between issues of ****** assault, domestic violence and child protection in application of assessments and care planning.
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills including writing of clinical notes, specialist reports and presentations for training and community education; with high level time management and administrative organisational skills.
Experience in and commitment to working with people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, people who are culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and who come from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel. Participate in the 24/7 crisis on-call service, to attend Nepean Hospital within one (1) hour
