About Us

Parents of Black Children Canada (PoBC) is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (CNCA) and a registered Canadian charity (705016533RR0001). We are a recognized advocacy and community organization working to dismantle systemic anti-Black racism in Ontario’s education system.

Our work is led by lived experience and grounded in community accountability, as we advance policy reform, systems change, and culturally responsive care for Black children, youth, and families. Our vision is to create an equitable and peaceful educational experience for Black students, free from oppression and anti-Black racism. Our mission is to create a world where Black families are thriving. We are committed to dismantling institutional bias and systemic neglect that impede Black families from achieving equitable success.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant – Education will support the delivery of PoBC’s core programs, including advocacy services (including legal advocacy), tutoring initiatives, workshops, and family support. This role is ideal for someone interested in education, advocacy, community work, and youth programming.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with coordination and delivery of core programs, including advocacy support, tutoring, and workshops
Support advocacy work by helping prepare materials for family support cases (as appropriate)
Assist with outreach to families navigating education and systemic barriers
Help organize program materials, schedules, and documentation
Provide administrative and logistical support to program and advocacy staff
Attend and support virtual or in-person program sessions and meetings
Track participation and assist with basic reporting
Support community engagement and event planning
Skills & Experience

Strong communication and organizational skills
Interest in education, youth development, or community work
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Basic digital skills (Google Suite, etc.)
Experience in advocacy or legal work is an asset, but not required. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided.

Applicants must:

Be between 15–30 years old
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
Be legally entitled to work in Canada (International students are not eligible)
