Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Various locations. Commercial. Industrial. Construction site. Construction. Repair and maintenance services. Tasks: Install domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems. Repair domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems. Instruct apprentices. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors. Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing. Estimate costs and materials. Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size. Repair and maintain boilers and heavy-metal products. Service gas heating units and their components. Install and overhaul heating systems. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Plumber Trade Certification. Working at heights training. Plumber Red Seal Certificate. Gas Fitter Red Seal Certificate. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Security and safety: Driving record check (abstract). Transportation/travel information: Vehicle supplied by employer. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Hand-eye co-ordination. Handling heavy loads. Overtime required.
