Job Description

Your Role

Are you looking to expand your skillset and apply your expertise to challenging new environments? The Army Reserve is somewhere you can hone your skills, gain leadership qualities and work in a flexible, part-time capacity.

As one of Australia’s largest employers, the Army’s reputation requires careful management. This flexible Public Relations role will have you developing, maintaining and monitoring the communications strategies that help shape how the Army is perceived in the broader community.

Your duties will include leading the public affairs teams to support Army exercises and operations, as well as provide expert advice to Army commanders to assist their decision-making. You will also be responsible for preparing media releases, undertaking media liaison duties and oversee the gathering of still and video imagery for Army publications. And this is no ‘office job’. You’ll have the education, character and potential to excel in a variety of challenging environments, including combat zones.

There’s no lack of excitement in this Army Reserve role. It’s a great opportunity to travel the region, step outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself in new ways. See how this flexible, part-time role can help you boost your career.

Just give as little as one night a week, one weekend a month or a few weeks a year and you’ll get a world of new experiences back.

Boost your Income

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.

On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn a package worth at least: $322/day tax-free.

Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

Life in the Army Reserve

Thousands of men and women enjoy part-time roles with the Army Reserve, operating alongside full-time Army personnel. The only difference is that your commitment is flexible.

Initial training length will vary based on your chosen role, after which you will normally be expected to serve between 10 and 20 days per year, with scope to serve more days if they are available. This could involve one night a week, one weekend a month or a few weeks a year.

We do our best to make sure this fits in with your work and family commitments. Deployments are voluntary so if you choose to stay local, there are plenty of ways to make a difference closer to home. With no minimum period of service, you can leave the Army Reserve whenever you like.
