Shop Helper

Working Title: Shop Helper

Department/Division: Maintenance

Reports to: Various Maintenance Manager

Summary: Our growing company is looking for a shop helper. If you are looking for an exciting place to work, please take a look at the list of qualifications below. The shop helper will assist the Maintenance Manager in supporting the Gateway Terminals shop and Operational team.

Essential Duties:
• Must maintain Shop cleanliness in all areas and company equipment.
• Must be able to drive to pick-up or deliver parts as needed.
• Assist in performing routine preventive maintenance to company equipment.
• Training on-the-job with respect to company operating procedures and other specialized training.
• May be assigned additional responsibilities as necessary to support operations / production.
• Occasionally assisting mechanics with minor repairs.
• Clean tools and company equipment using environmentally safe products.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Has developed knowledge and skills in General Maintenance fields.
• Ability to work well independently with others.
• Basic understanding of inspection equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a results driven environment.
• Ability to maintain company equipment checkout processes.

Working Conditions:
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, occasional sitting.
• The ability to climb up and down stairs, ladders, and equipment multiple times within a shift.
• Requires physical ability to work on a ship and in a yard.
• The ability to use a computer/keyboard.
• The ability to work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
• The ability to work in an environment with moving objects and machinery.
• The environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast moving heavy equipment.
• Must be able to obtain TWIC card.

Minimum Requirements (Education, Experience, Certifications):
• A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
• Vocational or Mechanical Training is a plus.
