Qualifications
Some knowledge of applicable laws, the legal process, and legal terminology
Knowledge of computers, Microsoft 365, and database management
Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
Ability to compose, proofread and edit correspondence, reports and other documents
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work well with other staff members, clients, and the public
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently in the absence of supervision
High school diploma, or equivalent
Two years of specialized training in the legal secretarial or clerical field
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements

Responsibilities
The Legal Support Specialist is responsible for assisting attorneys with discovery and trial preparation
Reviews assigned cases and documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance and prepares a variety of legal pleadings for review by the attorney
Conducts discovery and prepares Freedom of Information Act requests
Obtains authorization forms from clients
Issues and processes subpoenas for hearings, deposition, or trial
Maintains a tracking system to monitor service of process, return of service, and other time sensitive documents
Prepares court documents and routes orders to judge or opposing counsel when approved by the attorney
Creates, opens, and maintains confidential case files, abstracts files, updates narrative as case progresses and enters case information into appropriate database
Prepares, faxes, copies, files, and mails case information and documents, as needed, in a timely manner, following established procedures and protocol
Assists clients on case status, either in person or on the telephone, and provides general information or routine responses
Copies, files, and processes documents following standardized procedures
Initiates telephone calls to clients, witnesses, attorneys, court personnel, and others directly involved in the case
Conducts research and investigations and reports findings to attorney in written or verbal narrative
Prepares and maintains trial notebooks following standardized procedures
Attends client meetings with attorney when necessary
Works closely with the assigned attorney to prepare for trial
Tracks time spent on each client’s case
Performs duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma, or equivalent.
• Two years of specialized training in the legal secretarial or clerical field.
• Preferred, training or experience as a paralegal.
• Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements.
