Job Description

We're seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join MAS and contribute to our future success as we continue to transform our data and analytics practice and build out our Modern Data Platform.

The Lead Data Engineer is an integral part of the Data & Analytics team, and is responsible for the design, management & implementation of complex data flows to connect MAS's operational systems with end users of curated reports and insights.

This role would ideally suit someone who has 7+ years' experience in data engineering, and 2+ years in a leadership role.

We are searching for someone who is self-motivated, able to self-manage, thinks critically, and uses initiative. Do you have excellent communications skills with the ability to lead and mentor a team of data engineers? We want to hear from you!

This is a Wellington based position however strong applications from Auckland will also be considered.

What your day might look like

Mentoring a dynamic data engineering team and actively manage collaboration with stakeholders
Lead the ongoing build and development of our Microsoft Fabric data platform
Optimise data pipelines and processes for improved performance and scalability
Proactively Identify and troubleshoot data quality issues and implement solutions
Consulting on projects across the business where data design experience is required
Along with the Head of Data, develop & enforce compliance procedures internally in the team and across the business
Work across the Data & Analytics team to foster a culture of collaboration, setting the wider team up for success
What we're looking for

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets
Ability to work collaboratively with various teams as well as others within the Data & Analytics team
Strong understanding of ETL processes, specifically for cloud platforms. Experience with Azure or Fabric Data Factory for data ingestion & orchestration is a must, as well as a knowledge of dbt for transformations, documentation & governance
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including managing query loads for daily job executions and setting up alerting to actively manage pipelines failures
Familiarity with building operational data stores, event streaming for data ingestion and delta tables
Strong understanding of data security and privacy regulations
Extensive experience with SQL for transformation and Analysis
Proficiency in Python, notebooks and Apache Spark
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and Azure services
