Job Description

Discovery Playschool is a private, nonprofit, state-licensed childcare and preschool center located in Richland Center, WI. We operate year-round and have been serving area families for over 25 years. Currently seeking a part-time, flexible Payroll, Bookkeeping, & Business Associate to manage the day-to-day finances of the business. This position reports to the Director of Discovery Playschool and is accountable to the Board of Directors. Job Responsibilities: Payroll Maintains payroll information in the payroll system, as well as retrieving data when necessary. Pays employees by calculating pay and deductions and issuing checks. Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and interacting with Director. Maintains payroll operations by answering questions and requests, following policies and procedures, and keeping information confidential. Bookkeeping Maintains records of revenue and expenses in monthly financial reports. Takes weekly deposit to the bank. Pays bills and invoices as directed by the Director & Board. Business Assistant Reports new hires to the State of Wisconsin via online system. Completes annual insurance audit using payroll information. Files annual federal 990 taxes. Completes annual required nonprofit and business filings with the State of Wisconsin. Submit grant applications and documentation. Work Hours & Benefits This position is to work an average of 5 hours per week in a flexible, self-directed schedule, so long as all duties are completed. This is a work-from-home position, but does require a weekly in-person visit to the Discovery Playschool in Richland Center to exchange physical paperwork and make bank deposits. Payroll Clerk Skills and Qualifications: Analytical skills Data entry skills Attention to detail Deadline-driven Problem solving Flexibility and adaptability Confidentiality General math skills Familiarity with financial software Familiarity with accounting principles Communication skills Organizational skills Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements: High school diploma required; associate’s degree or equivalent experience preferred Experience working in an office setting Previous payroll software experience a plus Qualified candidates will provide at least 3 professional references and must pass a state background check. Anticipated start date: January 2026. Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour Benefits: Flexible schedule Work Location: Remote
