An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the Therapy Department at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH).

You will be supporting Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who provide a wide range of rehabilitation programmes for people with complex chronic musculoskeletal pain problems, hypermobility and rheumatological conditions.

You will undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients and to support the day to day running of the department.

Assist with teaching and supervising exercises (individually, in classes and in water) and functional activities individually and in groups, and provide feedback to the multidisciplinary team on patients’ progress.

To provide administration, data entry and practical support to ensure the smooth running of the department.

To maintain stock levels and ensure equipment is cleaned according to RNOH infection control guidelines.

To supply patients requiring walking aids / equipment, instructing patients on their safe use.

Duties will include carrying out and documenting group and individual activity sessions with patients, maintaining clinical equipment, administrative and clerical tasks, preparing and cleaning treatment areas. The job involves regularly work in and around the hydrotherapy pool. Patient sessions may include using craft activities, gardening and/or cooking to reinforce rehabilitation principles. It also involves delivering relaxation groups, assisting therapists to run sport and swimming sessions and setting up and using rehabilitation equipment/techniques. Full training and regular supervision will be provided.

The post holder will mainly be based at the RNOH Stanmore site.

Applicants should have good written and spoken English and experience of working with people with disabilities. The applicant should show initiative and be able to demonstrate basic administration and clerical skills.

This ranges from the most acute spinal cord injury, bone tumour and complex joint reconstruction to orthopaedic and specialist rehabilitation.
