Postgresql DBA Consultant

Job Title: PostgreSQL Database Admin

Experience: 8-11 years
We are seeking an experienced and motivated PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our critical data systems. In this role, you will be responsible for database design, optimization, monitoring, and administration across high-availability environments.


Your expertise will be crucial in implementing robust backup and recovery strategies, fine-tuning performance, and ensuring data integrity and security. You will also play a key role in guiding best practices, supporting development teams, and driving continuous improvement in our database infrastructure.


As the PostgreSQL DBA, your responsibilities would be:
To act as a consultant for PostgreSQL database administration.
To focus on query and performance optimization.
To work closely with developers on SQL/code reviews and query improvements.
Ability to use Bash or Python for scripting and automating routine database tasks.




Requirements


Strong skills in SQL and PL/SQL, with experience in tuning slow queries.
Proficiency in analyzing execution plans using tools like EXPLAIN, ANALYZE, and auto-explain.
Expertise in indexing strategies, VACUUM/ANALYZE, and table partitioning.
Skill in using monitoring views such as pg_stat statements, pg_stat activity, and pg_stat user tables.
Knowledge of key PostgreSQL configuration parameters like work_mem and shared_buffers.
Experience with connection pooling tools (e.g., PgBouncer) and managing locks and concurrency.
Familiarity with schema optimization, normalization, and scalable data models.
Comfort with PostgreSQL on AWS RDS and managing read replicas.
