J.McLaughlin is a specialty American Sportswear and Accessories brand headquartered in New York. We are looking for a dynamic Womenswear Designer to join our Creative team. This role will report to the Senior Design Director for Womenswear and will have the opportunity to design all apparel categories of product. The ideal candidate is creative, business-oriented, and has a strong understanding of our brand identity and customer. This role will primarily be based in our Greenpoint, Brooklyn office.
About the role
Essential Functions:
Design and develop seasonal womenswear apparel from concept to final sample across multiple categories (e.g., dresses, separates, outerwear, knitwear).
Conduct trend research, mood boards, and color palette development to support the seasonal vision.
Create detailed technical flat sketches and CADs.
Source fabrics, trims, and washes in collaboration with the product development and sourcing teams.
Work closely with technical designers to oversee fittings and ensure proper garment fit and quality.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Merchandising, Marketing, and Production teams to align creative direction with business objectives
Manage timelines and calendars to ensure all design milestones and deadlines are met.
Collaborate on concepts, colors and prints.
Monitor competitor brands and industry trends to keep collections fresh and relevant.

What we are looking for
Skills & Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field.
3+ years of womenswear design experience in a contemporary or designer brand environment.
Experience with all knit and woven categories including tailoring, bottoms and outerwear
Strong knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, and fabric behavior.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Office; experience with PLM systems is a plus.
Strong eye for color, proportion, and silhouette.
Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to travel as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
