Job description
📍 Brooklyn, NY (1–2 days/week in-person) | 💼 Freelance | ⏰ 10–20 hrs/week | 💰 $20–$40/hr

About Emme Mama

Emme Mama is a fast-growing maternity apparel startup known for natural-fiber essentials that evolve with every stage of motherhood. We follow a “one-step-away” product strategy—iterating on proven winners by improving fabric, function, or silhouette while maintaining an 80 %+ natural‑fiber mix.

We’re now hiring a freelance Technical Product Designer to lead fit development, pattern iteration, and spec creation for new and evolving styles. This is a key role in transforming customer feedback into scalable, high-performance garments that flatter growing bumps and support postpartum bodies.

🔍 What You'll Do

Fit Development & Pattern Iteration (60%)

Run weekly or biweekly fittings with real customers (in-person in Brooklyn)

Create and revise digital patterns (Gerber, CLO3D, or Optitex)

Codify learnings into a living Fit Playbook (grading rules, material shrinkage, etc.)

Own the “Fit Flywheel” to reduce returns and improve size accuracy

Product Tech & Launch Support (40%)

Create and update tech packs with detailed specs and construction notes

Support prototype development and revisions across knits and wovens

Collaborate with our design and supply chain leads on capsule collections and seasonal launches

Help us meet our 90-day launch cadence with clarity on production timelines

✅ What We're Looking For

5+ years of technical design or pattern-making experience (freelance or in-house)

Hands-on experience with fit, grading, and garment construction

Proficiency in CAD tools

Knowledge of natural fibers and shrinkage behavior (cotton, linen, viscose, etc.)

Experience in maternity, adaptive, or intimate apparel is a strong plus

Located in or near NYC and available to travel to our Brooklyn studio 1–2 times per week

❤️ Why Work With Us?

Purposeful work: Design clothes that support real moms through a transformational stage of life

Creative autonomy: Influence product from prototype to production

Flexibility: Set your own schedule and hours within a collaborative, startup-minded team

Growth-oriented: Be part of a brand scaling quickly—and thoughtfully
Ready to take the next step?

Don't wait — new applications are being reviewed daily.
