Plumber/Oil Burner Mechanic

Position Title: Journeyman Plumber/Oil Burner Mechanic

LOCATION: Cambridge Bay, Nunavut

START DATE: Immediately

PURPOSE

The Journeyman Plumber/Oil Burner Mechanic with be assigned plumbing and heating repairs and maintenance for approx. 100 properties.

SCOPE

The Journeyman Plumber/Oil Burner Mechanic will be responsible for the safe and efficient repairs and maintenance. They will also ensure that accurate and timely information regarding supplies, tools and time are recorded as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Journeyman Plumber/Oil Burner Mechanic is required to:

complete construction/renovation projects, and maintenance with a team of workers and apprentice.
operate as a team member in a cross cultural work environment.
follows all required safety procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills & Knowledge:

· Determine specifications and quantities for parts for plumbing & mechanical requirements

· Knowledge in diesel fueled boilers & furnaces

· Knows how to install a diesel fuel tank

· Has the knowledge to complete thorough PM’s on Boilers

· Has the skills to work independently

· Other carpentry experience would be an asset

· Valid driver’s license.

· Current first aid certificate (standard or emergency).

Education:

Journeyman is required.
Red Seal Certificate would be preferred.
Experience:

Five years experience in the new construction industry.
Five years experience in the maintenance industry.
Two years experience in Northern Mechanical Systems
Five years experience supervising staff & leading a project
Five or more years experience reading blue prints, and able to modify the designs where required, while keeping the mechanical standards to an equivalent or greater than the original design.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The successful candidate will be expected to work 10 hour shifts while on site, on a rotational basis of 6 weeks in and 2 weeks out, with the option of staying longer if preferred. Occupational Health and Safety is of major importance and all personnel are required to follow good work practices, completing tasks in a safe and orderly manner. Some heavy lifting may be required.
