We’re looking for a loyal, committed, and hands-on Head Cook to join our team in the northern suburbs and bring energy, consistency, and heart to our kitchen.
At Matthews Hospitality, we believe in great food done right. We're about quality, care, and community, from classic pub favourites like schnitzels and steaks to fresh seasonal specials and hearty roasts.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role for someone who leads from the front and genuinely enjoys being in the kitchen. Your positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to maintaining high standards in food safety and hygiene will set the tone for the team.
You’ll be responsible for:
Leading by example – cooking on the line, keeping the team motivated and focused
Ensuring a clean, safe, and organised kitchen – food safety and hygiene are non-negotiable
Training and mentoring staff – from kitchenhands to junior chefs, you’ll help them grow
Delivering consistent, high-quality food – and having pride in every plate
Managing kitchen operations – stock control, ordering, food cost, and portioning
Creating specials and event menus – showcasing your creativity and passion
What You Bring to the Table:
A genuine passion for food and a great attitude
Proven kitchen leadership experience (Head Cook, Head Chef, or Sous)
Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent experience)
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
Confidence in training, mentoring, and rostering a team
A calm, respectful, and professional approach under pressure
A long-term mindset – we value loyalty and commitment
