The Philadelphia Research and Education Foundation (PREF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports the Corporal Michael J. Cresencz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC). Our mission is to lead the nation in advancing veteran’s health and well-being through research and education.

We are seeking an experienced accountant to perform all accounting work for the Foundation from data entry through financial statements, including annual independent audits. As the sole financial member of the Foundation administrative staff, this individual must have a strong background in accounting principles, financial management and leadership. The position requires strategic thinking, analytical skills, communication skills and the ability to ensure compliance with contract and grant requirements, all while establishing and maintaining strong internal control procedures.

Responsibilities:

Maintain the day-to-day operations of the accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and financial reporting.
Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures and controls to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, including financial statement preparation at both grant level and corporate level, reconciliation and analysis.
Determine and record journal entries, adjustments and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, forecasts and variance analyses to support decision-making and strategic planning.
Coordinate and liaise with external auditors, tax return preparers and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits, tax filings and compliance requirements.
Provide financial analysis, insights and recommendations to the Executive Director, principal investigators and their staff to support business decisions.
Stay updated on relevant accounting standards, regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in the financial management process.
Requirements and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or equivalent certification a plus
Proven experience as an accountant with a minimum of five years of experience in accounting; experience in non-profit accounting and grant and contract accounting preferable.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles., including contract accounting, net asset classification, non-profit reporting and contract cost and overhead accruals.
A high level of proficiency in the use of QuickBooks desktop accounting software, including classes, jobs, credit card accounting, report development as well as receivables, payables and payroll.
A high level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, including the design and maintenance of workbooks to provide accounting documentation and to support invoicing and performance tracking of individual grants and contracts.
Attention to detail and accuracy in work, including developing techniques to self- verify calculations.
Ability to communicate financial concepts effectively to non-financial individuals.
Integrity and professionalism in handling confidential financial information.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
